Bowmore Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships 2009

This year, the prestigious Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships were held on Islay and sponsored by Bowmore.

Congratualtions to all this year's winners and a special mention to the Scotland team, for their third championship in a row.

The Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championship first took place on London Lakes in Tasmania in 1988, with the aim of holding a competition based on the simple mantra of “friendship in fishing”. The competition now features teams from the UK, Canada, Australia and South Africa.

The Lochs Islay Maps
Loch GormLoch Gorm Map

Loch Gorm is the largest Loch on Islay and the most famous. This shallow Loch supports a large population of beautifully marked wild Brown Trout, with large specimens caught regularly each year.

Loch KinnabusLoch Kinnavbus Map

Loch Kinnabus is situated in the south of the island on the Oa. The Loch is full of hard fighting wild Brown Trout and will be used as a bank venue.

Loch BallygrantLoch Ballygrant Map
 
Used very successfully in the 2003 European Championships for boat sessions. This picturesque sheltered Loch is close to the village of Ballygrant in the north of the island situated on the Dunlossit Estate.

Loch FinlagganLoch Finlaggan Map

Finlaggan is a historic site on the Eilean Mòr in Loch Finlaggan. Loch, island, and castle lie around 2 km to the north-west of Ballygrant on Islay.
